Gift of Time (Santa Brunch too)

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. I know our weekends are looking a little different during this holiday season, with less events to go to and more time at home. I’m actually enjoying a good old fashioned Christmas this year. It seems that slowing down has enabled us as a family to embrace a lot more traditional at home activities, rather than rushing from one holiday party to the next. Don’t get me wrong, I love those moments of dressing up and being out and about….but there is something about having time to make Christmas cards with glitter and glue, really enjoy making Christmas cookies (not just be checking it off of Caroline’s holiday to do list), and actually just sitting with Sarah curled up on me watching Elf (over and over). In the past, I’ve tried hard to take it all in, but actually having REAL time at home, makes me realize, I was not taking it all in like I should.

On the flip side of being home, when we do dress up and go to a holiday event, with less on the calendar, each event feels absolutely glorious! On Sunday, we went to Santa Brunch close to our home. It was a small crowd and we wore holiday masks, but it was just so much fun to see friends, see Caroline sip hot chocolate with some 6th grade friends, see Sarah convince Santa she’s been good, and overall just enjoy talking. We ended up having an adult table and we talked so long, we had no idea two hours had passed. Time. We say time is the ultimate gift, and that’s what we’ve been given this year. It’s a different year, no doubt, but I hope you all are finding a way to enjoy this amazing season of hope and extra time in a new way this year….one we’ll look back on with the fondest memories and realize how special this time at home really was as we take part in the wild ride of 2020, a year sure to go down in history books.
