Sushi Night Sundays

At the beginning of January, the girls wanted to learn how to make sushi. Always eager to be in the kitchen, Caroline looked up what we would need and found a recipe. We did a loose version of this recipe and here we are three weeks later and have made it a thing in our house, “sushi night Sundays.” The girls love getting their hands messy with rolling the rice and putting the veggies in and Matthew and I love sitting and watching them while they make dinner. It’s really fun and SO easy! However, we’ve only been making vegetable sushi…we have not ventured into putting fish in yet, so we’ll see. For now, I think we’ll stick with what we know. I do put some spring rolls in the oven (this is our favorite brand), which makes for an easy Sunday night dinner to start the week. You could also do a fun salad with ginger dressing or some miso soup. It’s fun to have a theme night and I like resetting for the week with a healthy meal on Sunday nights.

After we realized we were enjoying making sushi, we decided we needed some proper tools. You really don’t have to have any of the tools I linked at the bottom, but the sushi making kit does make it easier. Plus, the girls love that it comes with a mold to make heart shaped sushi, which they have done and it turned out so cute! I’ve found I love setting the table with fun chopsticks and their are so many to choose from, and the don’t cost much at all! Oh, and the girls wanted the wood trays to make it look like we were eating sushi in a restaurant. I highly recommend giving it a try as a family! You’ll have fun and I love the kids are eating colorful veggies too!
